The small city of Amacuzac in Mexico in the state of Morelos serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipalities. It reports around 20,000 inhabitants. These people live in a poor region, in very simple conditions.Jobs you can find here are related to agriculture, mainly in the sugar cane fields, in small trade, cattle breeding and very few touristic places. When you walk in the village you are struck by the beauty and peace of the place, when the sun rises and people are getting ready to go to the fields, but also you witness that population is aging here. When you start talking to them, you hear incredible stories; people are so nice and eager to share. They explain to you that most of the youngsters are gone or want to go, studying in Cuernavaca the main city, gone to United States legally or sometimes illegally, you are going to find in the streets of that village “los que se quedan”-the ones that stay. Hope you enjoy discovering this place and meeting these people as I did! Part of group exhibit an imaginary line 2016 at Talento Bilingue de Houston.
